Any war effort requires leadership. That leadership can come from a variety of places: military leadership; political leadership; entrepreneurial leadership; economic leadership, etc. This section is devoted to the leaders of the Southern war effort.
CAPTAIN FRENCH FORREST, CSN
I am Confederate Naval Captain French Forrest. I am from Maryland, fought with Commodore Oliver Perry in the War of 1812 as a midshipman, commanded the American naval forces in the landing at Vera Cruz in 1847, became the only Flag Officer in the Virginia State Navy, assumed command of Gosport Navy Yard, supervised the building of the CSS Virginia, twice became Commander of the James River Squadron and served as Assistant Secretary of the CSA Navy.
